Behind the Music: Cosmic Context
The Wander Over Yonder theme song is a high-energy, banjo-driven bluegrass-meets-space-pop anthem that perfectly encapsulates the show’s optimistic spirit. Premiering on August 16, 2013, the series was created by Craig McCracken, the visionary behind The Powerpuff Girls and Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends.
The theme’s rhythmic “scatting” and fast pace mirror the boundless energy of Wander, an intergalactic traveler who seeks to help everyone he meets, much to the chagrin of his more pragmatic steed, Sylvia. With a powerhouse writing team including Lauren Faust and Andy Bean, the music remains as memorable as the show’s vibrant, rubber-hose animation style. Though it concluded in 2016 after two seasons and 79 episodes, its message of kindness and its infectious theme continue to resonate across the galaxy.
