Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends is a standout Cartoon Network series that imagines a world where imaginary friends are physical beings. When children outgrow them, the friends go to “Foster’s,” a Victorian mansion run by the kind Madame Foster and her bunny-friend Mr. Herriman, to wait for new families to adopt them.
The theme tune, composed by James L. Venable and Jennifer Kes Remington, is a high-energy instrumental piece. It perfectly mirrors the show’s unique animation style (which used Flash in a very cinematic way). The music has a “ragtime” feel that sounds both old-fashioned and completely zany, much like the house itself.
The show was created by Craig McCracken, who also gave us The Powerpuff Girls. It became famous for its diverse cast of friends—like the tall and helpful Wilt, the cowardly but strong Eduardo, and the bird-plane-palm tree hybrid, Coco. It remains a beloved classic for its message that you’re never too old for a little imagination.
