History of the Show
Created by brothers Chris and Shane Houghton, Big City Greens is an animated comedy that explores the “fish-out-of-water” story of the Green family. After losing their farm in the country, Bill Green and his two children, Cricket and Tilly, move in with their Alice (Gramma) in the middle of a bustling, high-tech metropolis.
The show is heavily inspired by the Houghtons’ own upbringing in a small town (St. Johns, Michigan) and their subsequent move to large cities for their careers. Since its 2018 debut, the show has grown into one of Disney’s most successful animated properties, eventually spawning a musical movie titled Big City Greens the Movie: Spacecation.

The Beat of the Big City
The Big City Greens Main Title Theme is a high-energy explosion of sound that perfectly captures the chaos of city life mixed with a bit of country banjo. While the show’s score is composed by Joachim Horsley, the theme song itself is performed by the American alternative band The Mowgli’s.
The song is intentionally fast-paced to match Cricket’s hyperactive personality. It serves as a 30-second summary of the show’s premise—showing the family’s rickety tractor driving through skyscrapers and neon lights. The music blends indie-rock energy with folk instruments, bridging the gap between the Greens’ past and their new urban reality.
